TKN Sweep Manhattan Beach — Three Straight 🔥
Taryn Brasher and Kristen Cruz beat Kelly Cheng and Megan Kraft 21-18, 21-16 without dropping a set all weekend. No women's pair had won three straight on the pier since Misty May-Treanor and Kerri Walsh Jennings.
Taryn Brasher and Kristen Cruz did not drop a set all weekend at the sport's cathedral, beating Kelly Cheng and Megan Kraft 21-18, 21-16 in the final for a third straight Manhattan Beach Open title.
The Sporting Tribune has them as the first women's team to win three consecutive Manhattan Beach Opens since Misty May-Treanor and Kerri Walsh Jennings won four in a row from 2005 through 2008.
On the men's side, Taylor Crabb and Andy Benesh rolled Gage Basey and Thomas Hurst 21-14, 21-13. SANDCAST's Travis Mewhirter wrote that both winners were inevitable.
Brasher and Cruz then took silver at the Montreal Elite16 on 24 August, losing the final to Brazil's Thamela Coradello and Victoria Lopes 19-21, 21-18, 15-12. Volleyball World records that as the eighth and last Elite16 of the 2026 Beach Pro Tour season.
Both pairs from this Manhattan Beach final are in the AVP League Championship field at Oak Street Beach in Chicago on 5 and 6 September. Brasher and Cruz play for the Austin Aces and Cheng and Kraft for the Miami Mayhem.
Austin holds one of the two women's semifinal byes and Miami does not, so Cheng and Kraft have to win a Saturday morning quarterfinal against the San Diego Smash before a rematch on the sand is even available.
