The AVCA First Serve, Eight Matches Later
Four days at Fiserv Forum in August, all four of the 2025 national semifinalists in one building, and Pittsburgh the only side that left it unbeaten.
The season opened all at once. The Jeep AVCA First Serve ran from 21 to 24 August at Fiserv Forum in Milwaukee, and every team that reached the 2025 national semifinals was in it: Texas A&M, Kentucky, Wisconsin and Pittsburgh.
Night one belonged to Wisconsin and Kentucky at 8 p.m. Central on ESPN, after Texas A&M and Louisville opened the event at 5 on ESPN2. Saturday stacked Wisconsin against Louisville on FOX and Texas against Arizona State on FS1. Sunday brought A&M against SMU and Pitt against Kentucky, and Monday closed with Pitt against Xavier and Texas against Marquette.
No. 4 Pittsburgh swept Xavier 3-0 (26-24, 25-13, 25-18) in the last match of the four days to finish it undefeated at 2-0, per Nate Sheridan of VolleyballMag. No. 2 Texas needed all five to beat Marquette 3-2 (22-25, 25-19, 25-16, 23-25, 15-8) in the other Monday match.
Eight matches, four days, one arena, and one team out of the four semifinalists left without a defeat.
