Cameroon's Men Are in Africa's Olympic Volleyball Final
They beat Algeria in Tunis to reach it, and the winner of it takes the place Africa sends to Los Angeles. Egypt, who have won this nine times and came in holding the title, went out in the quarter-finals.
Africa's single place at the Los Angeles Olympics in 2028 comes out of a hall in Tunis, and neither of the men's teams playing for it is Egypt.
Tunisia beat Morocco 3-1 (25-17, 20-25, 25-16, 25-12) in the semi-finals on 23 September and Cameroon beat Algeria 3-1 (25-22, 25-16, 20-25, 25-23).
Egypt have won this championship nine times, more than anybody except Tunisia, and they went out to Algeria in the quarter-finals.
Tunisia are also hosting a tournament they were not supposed to host.
It was awarded to Kinshasa, and the CAVB board moved it to Tunis on 20 August, weeks before it started, after member federations raised concerns about travelling to the Democratic Republic of the Congo. The confederation's announcement did not specify the grounds.
Tunisia have won the African title eleven times, which no other country has matched, and have been to seven Olympic Games. The most recent was Tokyo in 2020, where they finished eleventh, and they did not qualify for Paris.
Cameroon have won it twice, in 1989 and in 2001, and their last medal of any colour was a silver in 2021. The FIVB ranks Tunisia thirty-first in the world and Cameroon forty-fifth.
Both are already going to next year's World Cup in Poland, which this tournament sends three teams to. Morocco and Algeria play for the third of them on the same day.
