Tunisia's Men Take Africa's Olympic Volleyball Place 🌍
They swept Cameroon 3-0 (25-22, 25-18, 25-19) at El Menzah for a twelfth African title, and Oussama Ben Romdhane scored a quarter of their points doing it.
Tunisia beat Cameroon 3-0 (25-22, 25-18, 25-19) at the El Menzah Sports Palace on Friday night and took the Olympic place that Africa's continental route had to give.
It is a twelfth African title for Tunisia and, on the FIVB's count, an eighth Olympic appearance. It is the first since Tokyo.
The FIVB's report calls it a direct quota place for Africa at Los Angeles 2028. A continental championship is now the shortest road to an Olympic Games there is, which is why a September tournament in Tunis settled something about July 2028.
Algeria beat Morocco 3-0 (25-19, 25-21, 25-18) in the bronze match and took the third African place at the 2027 World Cup in Poland. Tunisia and Cameroon had both banked theirs by reaching Friday.
Tunisia beat Morocco 3-1 (25-17, 20-25, 25-16, 25-12) in a semi-final that VolleyballMag timed at one hour and 40 minutes.
Cameroon beat Algeria 3-1 in the other one, and have won this championship twice, in 1989 and 2001, from nineteen appearances since 1971.
Ben Romdhane Scored a Quarter of Tunisia's Points
Three sets cost Tunisia 75 points and Oussama Ben Romdhane scored 19 of them, 12 from attack, four from the service line and three at the net. Ali Bongui had 11.
Cameroon scored 59 across the same three sets, so sixteen points separated the two teams over the whole final.
Most of that gap arrived after the first set, which Cameroon lost 25-22. The second went 25-18 and the third 25-19, and Cameroon did not get within three of Tunisia again.
The Championship Was Moved to Tunis in August
Tunisia won Africa's Olympic place at home, in a championship that had been awarded to Kinshasa. Africanews reported the move to Tunis on 20 August, twenty-six days before the tournament opened.
The El Menzah Sports Palace holds 6,000 on the tournament's published capacity. We cannot tell you how many were in it, because no source reachable from here has published an attendance for the final, and the only figure in circulation sits in a summary table that still has the final down as unplayed.
Tunisia's first African title came in 1967.

Volleyball World's published qualification system gives five of the twelve places in Los Angeles to continental champions and one to the United States as host, with three out of the 2027 World Cup and three out of the world ranking after it.
Tunisia go to Los Angeles as Africa's champion. They won the place at home, in a tournament their country was handed at under a month's notice, and they did not drop a set in the final doing it.
